It is such an adventure to photograph a cozy destination wedding every year. Hailing from Iowa, getting to escape our long cold winters for a warmer destination is a necessity! In November 2021, my husband and I traveled to photograph a destination wedding in Cancun, Mexico at the Atelier Playa Mujeres. We were lucky enough to document the love story of Alex and Sam on that special day.
Alex began her day at the Spa with hair and makeup. It was such a dreamy way to start a wedding day. Who doesn’t love some spa time at an all-inclusive resort?! We ventured to the lobby to do a first look with her dad and then her groom, Sam. Both moments were organic and full of tears. Over 75 of their friends joined them on the beach as they shared their vows with the turquoise ocean behind them. It was so serene and beautiful. It was truly the perfect backdrop for a wedding day.
The resort decorated the reception space next the the ocean with twinkle lights and floral. The guests and couple danced into the night as the ocean waves crashed under a clear sky. This destination wedding in Cancun makes me wish more couples opted for an intimate day on the beach! The day was absolutely perfect and intimate from start to finish. It was a wedding I will not forget capturing.
